Spotlight, Siri and Handoff

Find your albums, your collections and the photographs you have judged from Spotlight, and carry the photograph you are looking at to another device.

Spotlight. Type the name of a Photos album or folder, a Frames collection or folder, or a photograph’s filename, caption or keyword. A photograph is also found by the names of the albums and collections that hold it. Spotlight carries every Photos album and folder, every Frames collection and folder, and each photograph you kept, rated, captioned or gave a keyword. Other photographs, saved searches and the directories of a folder source stay in Frames’ own search. Thumbnails come from previews already on the device. Choosing a photograph opens it in the loupe, with the words you typed into Spotlight in Frames’ search and its source highlighted in the sidebar. When Frames’ search does not find that photograph, the search is cleared and the photograph opens all the same. Choosing an album or a collection opens its grid and highlights it in the sidebar. Choosing a Frames folder expands it in the sidebar and leaves the grid where it was. Settings › General › Show photographs in Spotlight starts on; turning it off removes everything Frames put in Spotlight.

Siri and Shortcuts. Say “Open album in Frames” or “Present album in Frames” with the name of a Photos album or a Frames collection. Shortcuts lists both beside “Find photographs in Frames” and “Get selected photographs from Frames”.

Handoff. A photograph open in the loupe or in Develop appears in the other device’s Dock or app switcher. Taking it opens the same photograph in the same mode. When the photograph has yet to reach that device, Frames says so and downloads nothing. Handoff works with decision sync on or off, as long as both devices hold the photograph.

Devices. Spotlight, Siri and Handoff work on Mac, iPhone and iPad. Apple TV has none of the three.
