Chapter 03 · Browse
3.12Saved searches
Save a Browse query and its filters to run it again in any collection, with an updated library-wide result count.
Click Save beside Like this above the grid. Enter a unique name and press ⏎. Empty or duplicate names are rejected without clearing the field.
Saved searches appear alphabetically under LIBRARY in the sidebar. Each row shows its current count; no number appears until the count is available.
Open and close. Click a saved search to restore its query, authored-keyword and detected-word chips, date range, cameras, lenses, RAW only, Edited, Kept, Monochrome, rating, status and sort order. The selected collection stays in place, and the search narrows its photographs. A blue outline and checkmark show which search is on. Click it again to restore the previous query, filters and sort.
Saving or typing a matching query leaves the saved search’s row off until you click it. If its settings were already applied when you switched it on, switching it off clears the search and filters. Changing the query turns the checkmark off; changing the selected collection keeps the search on.
Saved searches do not store the collection selected when saved. Select All Photographs to run one across the entire library. The count beside a saved search is its library-wide total.
On iPhone and iPad, open Library from the collection title, then switch from Library to Search at the top to build a Browse query and save it. Search opens with RAW only, Kept, Edited, Monochrome and Rated in the Mac’s order. Tap Rated to switch the last star threshold off or on; tap a star to choose a threshold, or tap the active star to clear it. The Search side shows how many filters are narrowing the photographs, and each filter group shows its own count while folded. Saved searches are listed under Saved, below the search fields, and under LIBRARY in the Library. Tap one to open it; touch and hold it to remove it. On Apple TV, Search builds a Browse query and opens synced saved searches; saved searches are managed on Mac, iPhone or iPad. On every device, the active saved search is marked; opening it again restores the previous filters. Each device searches its own photographs, so result counts can differ.
Live counts. Ratings, verdicts, keywords, imports and sync update counts in the background.
Remove. Right-click a row and choose Remove Saved Search…, then confirm. Removing a search does not remove photographs.
Searches are stored in the catalogue separately from synced collection rows. They survive sync and remain compatible with newer query fields.
